1Prevalence of minimal hepatic encephalopathy and quality of life evaluations in hospitalized cirrhotic patients in China显示文摘AIM:To investigate the prevalence of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE)and to assess corresponding health-related quality of life(HRQoL)in hospitalized cirrhotic patients in China.METHODS:This multi-center cross-sectional study included 16 teaching hospitals,which were members of 'Hepatobiliary Cooperation Group,Society of Gastroenterology,Chinese Medical Association',from different areas of China carried out between June and October in 2011.All the eligible hospitalized cirrhotic patients(n = 538)were required to complete triplicate number connection tests combined with one digit symbol test for diagnosing MHE.Patients' clinical examination data were complemented by a modified questionnaire assessing HRQoL.Written informed consent was obtained from each patient.RESULTS:Male was predominant(68.6%)in 519 patients who met the criteria of the study,with a mean age of 49.17 ± 11.02 years.The most common cause of liver cirrhosis was chronic hepatitis B(55.9%).The prevalence of MHE was 39.9% and varied by ChildPugh-Classification score(CPC-A:24.8%,CPC-B:39.4% and CPC-C:56.1%,P < 0.01).MHE(P < 0.01)and higher CPC scores(P < 0.01)were associated with a high HRQoL scores(reflecting poorer quality of life).The prevalence of MHE was proportionate to CPC(P = 0.01)and high quality of life scores(P = 0.01).CONCLUSION:Hospitalized cirrhotic patients have a high prevalence of MHE that is proportionate to the degree of liver function and HRQoL impairment.Ji-Yao Wang Ning-Ping Zhang Bao-Rong Chi Yu-Qing Mi Li-Na Meng Ying-Di Liu Jiang-Bin Wang Hai-Xing Jiang Jin-Hui Yang Yun Xu Xiao Li Jian-Ming Xu Guo Zhang Xin-Min Zhou Yu-Zheng Zhuge De-An Tian Jin Ye Yu-Lan Liu 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,30:64

4Cropland redistribution to marginal lands undermines environmental sustainability显示文摘Cropland redistribution to marginal land has been reported worldwide;however,the resulting impacts on environmental sustainability have not been investigated sufficiently.Here we investigated the environmental impacts of cropland redistribution in China.As a result of urbanization-induced loss of high-quality croplands in south China(~8.5 t ha^(-1)),croplands expanded to marginal lands in northeast(~4.5 t ha^(-1)) and northwest China(~2.9 t ha^(-1)) during 1990-2015 to pursue food security.However,the reclamation in these low-yield and ecologically vulnerable zones considerably undermined local environmental sustainability,for example increasing wind erosion(+3.47%),irrigation water consumption(+34.42%),fertilizer use(+20.02%) and decreasing natural habitats(-3.11%).Forecasts show that further reclamation in marginal lands per current policies would exacerbate environmental costs by 2050.The future cropland security risk will be remarkably intensified because of the conflict between food production and environmental sustainability.Our research suggests that globally emerging reclamation of marginal lands should be restricted and crop yield boost should be encouraged for both food security and environmental benefits.Wenhui Kuang Jiyuan Liu Hanqin Tian Hao Shi Jinwei Dong Changqing Song Xiaoyong Li Guoming Du Yali Hou Dengsheng Lu Wenfeng Chi Tao Pan Shuwen Zhang Rafiq Hamdi Zherui Yin Huimin Yan Changzhen Yan Shixin Wu Rendong Li Jiuchun Yang Yinyin Dou Wenbin Wu Liqiao Liang Bao Xiang Shiqi Yang 2022National Science Review2022,9,1:13
5Current advances for bone regeneration based on tissue engineering strategies显示文摘Bone tissue engineering (BTE) is a rapidly developing strategy for repairing critical-sized bone defects to address the unmet need for bone augmentation and skeletal repair. Effective therapies for bone regeneration primarily require the coordinated combination of innovative scaffolds, seed cells, and biological factors. However, current techniques in bone tissue engineering have not yet reached valid translation into clinical applications because of several limitations, such as weaker osteogenic differentiation, inadequate vascularization of scaffolds, and inefficient growth factor delivery. Therefore, further standardized protocols and innovative measures are required to overcome these shortcomings and facilitate the clinical application of these techniques to enhance bone regeneration. Given the deficiency of comprehensive studies in the development in BTE, our review systematically introduces the new types of biomimetic and bifunctional scaffolds. We describe the cell sources, biology of seed cells, growth factors, vascular development, and the interactions of relevant molecules. 6Hydroisomerization performance of platinum supported on ZSM-22/ZSM-23 intergrowth zeolite catalyst显示文摘Hydroisomerization catalysts Pt/ZSM-22,Pt/ZSM-23,and Pt/ZSM-22/ZSM-23 were prepared by supporting Pt on ZSM-22,ZSM-23,and intergrowth zeolite ZSM-22/ZSM-23,respectively.The typical physicochemical properties of these catalysts were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction(XRD),N2 absorption-desorption,Pyridine-Fourier Transform Infrared(Py-FTIR),Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM),X-Ray Fluorescence(XRF),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and NH3-Temperature Programmed Desorption(NH3-TPD),and the performance of these catalysts in n-dodecane hydroisomerization was evaluated in a continuous down-flow fixed bed with a stainless steel tubular reactor.The characterization results indicated that the intergrowth zeolite ZSM-22/ZSM-23 possessed the dual structure of ZSM-22 and ZSM-23,and the catalyst Pt/ZSM-22/ZSM-23 had similar pores and weak acidity to Pt/ZSM-22 and Pt/ZSM-23 catalysts.Moreover,Pt/ZSM-22/ZSM-23 catalyst showed a high selectivity in hydroisomerization of long chain n-alkanes to mono-branched isomers.The evaluation results for n-dodecane hydroisomerization indicated that the activity of Pt/ZSM-22/ZSM-23 was the lowest,while the hydroisomerization selectivity was the highest among the three catalysts.The maximum yield of i-dodecane product was 68.3% over Pt/ZSM-22/ZSM-23 at 320 oC.Chi Kebin Zhao Zhen Tian Zhijian Hu Sheng Yan Lijun Li Tianshu Wang Bingchun Meng Xiangbin Gao Shanbin Tan Mingwei Liu Yanfeng 2013Petroleum Science2013,10,2:8
7Global methane and nitrous oxide emissions from terrestrial ecosystems due to multiple environmental changes显示文摘Greenhouse gas(GHG)-induced climate change is among the most pressing sustainability challenges facing humanity today,posing serious risks for ecosystem health.Methane(CH_(4))and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)are the two most important GHGs after carbon dioxide(CO_(2)),but their regional and global budgets are not well known.In this study,we applied a process-based coupled biogeochemical model to concurrently estimate the magnitude and spatial and temporal patterns of CH_(4)and N_(2)O fluxes as driven by multiple environmental changes,including climate variability,rising atmospheric CO_(2),increasing nitrogen deposition,tropospheric ozone pollution,land use change,and nitrogen fertilizer use.The estimated CH_(4)and N_(2)O emissions from global land ecosystems during 1981-2010 were 144.39±12.90 Tg C/yr(mean 62 SE;1 Tg=1012 g)and 12.52±0.74 Tg N/yr,respectively.Our simulations indicated a significant(P,0.01)annually increasing trend for CH_(4)(0.43±0.06 Tg C/yr)and N_(2)O(0.14±0.02 Tg N/yr)in the study period.CH_(4)and N_(2)O emissions increased significantly in most climatic zones and continents,especially in the tropical regions and Asia.The most rapid increase in CH_(4)emission was found in natural wetlands and rice fields due to increased rice cultivation area and climate warming.N_(2)O emission increased substantially in all the biome types and the largest increase occurred in upland crops due to increasing air temperature and nitrogen fertilizer use.Clearly,the three major GHGs(CH_(4),N_(2)O,and CO_(2))should be simultaneously considered when evaluating if a policy is effective to mitigate climate change.Hanqin Tian Guangsheng Chen Chaoqun Lu Xiaofeng Xu Wei Ren Bowen Zhang Kamaljit Banger Bo Tao Shufen Pan Mingliang Liu Chi Zhang Lori Bruhwiler Steven Wofsy 2015Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2015,1,1:7
8Coal analysis using the pulsed neutron generator显示文摘A prototype of elemental analyzer for coal has been developed by using a PFTNA (pulse fast thermalneutron analysis) system. The PFTNA technology is based on the reactions such as (n, γ), (n, n'γ), (n, Pγ), etc. byexamining the characteristic gamma rays emitted. In our prototype a pulsed neutron generator provides 14 MeV pulseneutrons, which contribute to the separation of spectrum Ⅱ (the sum of capture and activation spectrum) fiom spec-trum Ⅰ (the sum of inelastic, capture and activation spectrum), and thus to the measurement of C and O contents incoal. Data management is completed by computer program using the least-square regression method. 9A GLP-1 analog lowers ER stress and enhances protein folding to ameliorate homocysteine-induced endothelial dysfunction显示文摘Hyperhomocysteinemia(HHcy)is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and increases mortality in type 2 diabetic patients.HHcy induces endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress and oxidative stress to impair endothelial function.The glucagon-like peptide 1(GLP-1)analog exendin-4 attenuates endothelial ER stress,but the detailed vasoprotective mechanism remains elusive.The present study investigated the beneficial effects of exendin-4 against HHcy-induced endothelial dysfunction.Exendin-4 pretreatment reversed homocysteine-induced impairment of endothelium-dependent relaxations in C57BL/6 mouse aortae ex vivo.Four weeks subcutaneous injection of exendin-4 restored the impaired endothelial function in both aortae and mesenteric arteries isolated from mice with diet-induced HHcy.Exendin-4 treatment lowered superoxide anion accumulation in the mouse aortae both ex vivo and in vivo.Exendin-4 decreased the expression of ER stress markers(e.g.,ATF4,spliced XBP1,and phosphorylated eIF2α)in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs),and this change was reversed by cotreatment with compound C(CC)(AMPK inhibitor).Exendin-4 induced phosphorylation of AMPK and endothelial nitric oxide synthase in HUVECs and arteries.Exendin-4 increased the expression of endoplasmic reticulum oxidoreductase(ERO1α),an important ER chaperone in endothelial cells,and this effect was mediated by AMPK activation.Experiments using siRNA-mediated knockdown or adenoviral overexpression revealed that ERO1αmediated the inhibitory effects of exendin-4 on ER stress and superoxide anion production,thus ameliorating HHcy-induced endothelial dysfunction.The present results demonstrate that exendin-4 reduces HHcy-induced ER stress and improves endothelial function through AMPK-dependent ERO1αupregulation in endothelial cells and arteries.AMPK activation promotes the protein folding machinery in endothelial cells to suppress ER stress.Chak Kwong Cheng Jiang-Yun Luo Chi Wai Lau William Chi-shing Cho Chi Fai Ng Ronald Ching Wan Ma Xiao Yu Tian Yu Huang 2021Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,10:6
10Comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses uncover the molecular basis of high nitrogen-use efficiency in the wheat cultivar Kenong 9204显示文摘Studying the regulatory mechanisms that drive nitrogen-use efficiency(NUE)in crops is important for sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.In this study,we generated a high-quality genome assembly for the high-NUE wheat cultivar Kenong 9204 and systematically analyzed genes related to nitrogen uptake and metabolism.By comparative analyses,we found that the high-affinity nitrate transporter gene family had expanded in Triticeae.Further studies showed that subsequent functional differentiation endowed the expanded family members with saline inducibility,providing a genetic basis for improving the adaptability of wheat to nitrogen deficiency in various habitats.To explore the genetic and molecular mechanisms of high NUE,we compared genomic and transcriptomic data from the high-NUE cultivar Kenong 9204(KN9204)and the low-NUE cultivar Jing 411 and quantified their nitrogen accumulation under high-and low-nitrogen conditions.Compared with Jing 411,KN9204 absorbed significantly more nitrogen at the reproductive stage after shooting and accumulated it in the shoots and seeds.Transcriptome data analysis revealed that nitrogen deficiency clearly suppressed the expression of genes related to cell division in the young spike of Jing 411,whereas this suppression of gene expression was much lower in KN9204.In addition,KN9204 maintained relatively high expression of NPF genes for a longer time than Jing 411 during seed maturity.Physiological and transcriptome data revealed that KN9204 was more tolerant of nitrogen deficiency than Jing 411,especially at the reproductive stage.The high NUE of KN9204 is an integrated effect controlled at different levels.Taken together,our data provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms of NUE and important gene resources for improving wheat cultivars with a higher NUE trait.Xiaoli Shi Fa Cui Xinyin Han Yilin He Long Zhao Na Zhang Hao Zhang Haidong Zhu Zhexin Liu Bin Ma Shusong Zheng Wei Zhang Jiajia Liu Xiaoli Fan Yaoqi Si Shuiquan Tian Jianqing Niu Huilan Wu Xuemei Liu Zhuo Chen Deyuan Meng Xiaoyan Wang Liqiang Song Lijing Sun Jie Han Hui Zhao Jun Ji Zhiguo Wang Xiaoyu He Ruilin Li Xuebin Chi Chengzhi Liang Beifang Niu Jun Xiao Junming Li Hong-Qing Ling 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,9:6

12Exposure Effects of Terahertz Waves on Primary Neurons and Neuron-like Cells Under Nonthermal Conditions显示文摘Objective This study aimed to explore the potential effects of terahertz(THz) waves on primary cultured neurons from 4 rat brain regions(hippocampus, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and brainstem)and 3 kinds of neuron-like cells(MN9 D, PC12, and HT22 cells) under nonthermal conditions.Methods THz waves with an output power of 50(0.16 THz) and 10(0.17 THz) m W with exposure times of 6 and 60 min were used in this study. Analysis of temperature change, neurite growth, cell membrane roughness, micromorphology, neurotransmitters and synaptic-related proteins(SYN and PSD95) was used to evaluate the potential effects.Results Temperature increase caused by the THz wave was negligible. THz waves induced significant neurotransmitter changes in primary hippocampal, cerebellar, and brainstem neurons and in MN9 D and PC12 cells. THz wave downregulated SYN expression in primary hippocampal neurons and downregulated PSD95 expression in primary cortical neurons.Conclusion Different types of cells responded differently after THz wave exposure, and primary hippocampal and cortical neurons and MN9 D cells were relatively sensitive to the THz waves. 13Loading-free supramolecular organic framework drug delivery systems(sof-DDSs) for doxorubicin:normal plasm and multidrug resistant cancer cell-adaptive delivery and release显示文摘Four water-soluble porous supramolecular organic framework drug delivery systems(sof-DDSs) have been used to adsorb doxorubicin(DOX) in water at physiological pH of 7.4,which is driven exclusively by hydrophobicity.The resulting complexes DOX@SOFs are formed instantaneously upon dissolving the components in water.The drug-adsorbed sof-DDSs can undergo plasm circulation with important maintenance of the drug and overcome the multidrug resistance of human breast MCF-7/Adr cancer cells.DOX is released readily in the cancer cells due to the protonation of its amino group in the acidic medium of cancer cells.In vitro and in vivo experiments reveal that the delivery of SOF-a-d remarkably improve the cytotoxicity of DOX for the MCF-7/Adr cells and tumors,leading to 13-19-fold reduction of the 1C_(50)values as compared with that of DOX.This new sof-DDSs strategy omits the indispensable loading process required by most of reported nano-scaled carriers for neutral hydrophobic chemotherapeutic agents,and thus should be highly valuable for future development of low-cost delivery systems.Chi Yao Jia Tian Hui Wang Dan-Wei Zhang Yi Liu Fan Zhang Zhan-Ting Li 2017Chinese Chemical Letters2017,28,4:5

17Essential sequence of the N-terminal cytoplasmic localization-related domain of huntingtin and its effect on huntingtin aggregates显示文摘Huntington's disease(HD) is caused by abnormal CAG repeat expansion in the 5′-end of the Huntingtin(HTT) gene.In addition to the canonical C-terminal full-length huntingtin(htt) nuclear export signal,a cytoplasmic localization-related domain(CLRD) in the N-terminus of htt has recently been reported.Here,we analyzed this domain by introducing deletion and substitution mutations in a truncated N-terminal htt protein and subsequently monitored htt expression,aggregation and subcellular localization by immunocytochemistry and Western blot analysis.We demonstrated that Htt4-17 was the essential sequence for htt cytoplasmic localization.We also found that the subcellular distribution of htt was altered when Htt1-17 was mutated to contain amino acids of different charges,suggesting a structural requirement of Htt1-17 for the cytoplasmic localization of htt. 18Preparation of poly(glutamic acid) shielding micelles self-assembled from polylysine-b-polyphenylalanine for gene and drug codelivery显示文摘A novel amphiphilic cationic block copolymer polylysine-b-polyphenylalanine(PLL-b-PPhe)was synthesized and self-assembled into micelles in aqueous solution,then shielded with poly(glutamic acid)(marked as PG/PLL-b-PPhe)to codeliver gene and drug for combination cancer therapy.Here,doxorubicin(DOX)was selected to be loaded into PLL-b-PPhe micelles and the drug loading efficiency was 8.0%.The drug release studies revealed that the PLL-b-PPhe micelles were pH sensitive and the released DOX could reach to 53.0%,65.0%,72.0%at pH 7.4,6.8 and 5.0,respectively.In order to reduce positive charge and cytotoxicity of PLL-b-PPhe micelles,PG was used as shelding,simultaneously condensed with Bcl2 siRNA to form gene carrier system.Compared with PEI,PG/PLL-b-PPhe had excellent gene transfection efficiency,especially when the molar ratio of PLL to PPhe was 30:60 and the mixed mass ratio of PLL-b-PPhe to gene was 5:1.More importantly,DOX and Bcl2 siRNA gene codelivery system displayed remarkable cytotoxicity against B16 F10 cells.Confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM)and flow cytometry were used to characterize endocytosis of the codelivery system,and confirmed that both DOX and Bcl2 siRNA had been endocytosed into B16 F10 cells.The above results indicated that gene and drug codelivery was a promising strategy in future cancer therapy.Jing Ma Jingpeng Zhang Lin Chi Chong Liu Yanhui Li Huayu Tian 2020Chinese Chemical Letters2020,31,6:4

20High performance and stability of double perovskite-type oxide NdBa0.5Ca0.5Co1.5Fe0.5O5+δas an oxygen electrode for reversible solid oxide electrochemical cell显示文摘In this study,we successfully synthesized double perovskite-type oxide NdBa0.5Ca0.5Co1.5Fe0.5O5+δ(NBCCF)using a conventional wet chemical method as the oxygen electrode for reversible solid oxide electrochemical cells(RSOCs).The polarization resistance(Rp)of the composite electrode NBCCFGd0.1Ce0.9O2(GDC)is only 0.079Ωcm^2 at 800℃under air.The single cell based on NBCCF-GDC electrode displays a peak power density of 0.941 W/cm^2 in fuel cell mode and a low Rp value of 0.134Ωcm^2.In electrolysis cell mode,the cell displays an outstanding oxygen evolution reaction(OER)activity and shows current density as high as 0.92 A/cm^2 with 50 vol%AH(Absolute Humidity)at 800℃and applied voltage of 1.3 V.Most importantly,the cell exhibits admirable durability of 60 h both in electrolysis mode and fuel cell mode with distinguished reversibility.All these results suggest that NBCCF is a promising candidate electrode for RSOC.Yunfeng Tian Yun Liu Wenjie Wang Lichao Jia Jian Pu Bo Chi Jian Li 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,4:4
