1Preliminary Results of In-situ Stress Measurements along the Longmenshan Fault Zone after the Wenchuan M_s 8.0 Earthquake显示文摘Four months after the Wenchuan M_s 8 earthquake in western Sichuan,China,in situ stress measurements were carried out along the Longmenshan fault zone with the purpose of obtaining stress parameters for earthquake hazard assessment.In-situ stresses were measured in three new boreholes by using overcoring with the piezomagnetic stress gauges for shallow depths and hydraulic fracturing for lower depths.The maximum horizontal stress in shallow depths(~20 m) is about 4.3 MPa,oriented N19°E,in the epicenter area at Yingxiu Town,about 9.7 MPa,oriented N51°W,at Baoxing County in the southwestern Longmenshan range,and about 2.6 MPa,oriented N39°E,near Kangding in the southernmost zone of the Longmenshan range.Hydraulic fracturing at borehole depths from 100 to 400 m shows a tendency towards increasing stress with depth.A comparison with the results measured before the Wenchuan earthquake along the Longmenshan zone and in the Tibetan Plateau demonstrates that the stress level remains relatively high in the southwestern segment of the Longmenshan range,and is still moderate in the epicenter zone.These results provide a key appraisal for future assessment of earthquake hazards of the Longmenshan fault zone and the aftershock occurrences of the Wenchuan earthquake.WU Manlu ZHANG Yueqiao LIAO Chunting CHEN Qunce MA Yinsheng WU Jinsheng YAN Junfeng OU Mingyi 2009Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2009,83,4:31
2Methionine-dependence and combination chemotherapy on human gastric cancer cells in vitro显示文摘AIM: To elucidate whether human primary gastric cancer and gastric mucosa epithelial calls in vitro can grow normally in a rnethionine (Met) depleted environment, i.e.Met-dependence, and whether Met-depleting status can enhance the killing effect of chemotherapy on gastric cancer cells.lMETHODS: Fresh human gastric cancer and mucosal tissueswere managed to form monocellular suspensions, whichwere then cultured in the Met-free but homocysteine-containing ( MetHcy+ ) medium, with differentchemotherapeutic drugs. The proliferation of the cells wasexamined by cell counter, flow cytometry (FCM) andmicrocytotoxicity assay (MTT).RESULTS: The growth of human primary gastric cancer cellsin Met Hcy+ was suppressed, manifested by the decrease oftotal cell counts [1.46±0.42 ( x 109@L-1) in Met-Hcy+ vs .64±0.44 ( x l09@L-1) in Met+ Hcy, P<0.01], the decline inthe percentage of G0G1 phase cells (0.69±0.24 in Met-Hey+vs 0.80±0.18 in Met+ Hcy, P<0.01) and the increase of Scells(0.24±0.20inMet-Hcy+ vs 0.17 ± 0.16 in Met+ Hcy-, P< 0.01); however, gastric mucusal cells grew normally. IfMet-Hcy+ medium was used in combination withchemotherapeutic drugs, the number of surviving gastriccancer cells dropped significantly.CONCLUSION: Human primary gastric cancer cells in vitroare Met-dependent; however, gastric mucosal cells have notshown the same characteristica. 4Effects of dexamethasone and Salvia miltiorrhiza on multiple organs in rats with severe acute pancreatitis显示文摘Objective:To investigate the protective effects and mechanisms of action of dexamethasone and Salvia miltiorrhiza on multiple organs in rats with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Methods:The rats were divided into sham-operated, model control, dexamethasone treated, and Salvia miltiorrhiza treated groups. At 3, 6, and 12 h after operation, the mortality rate of different groups, pathological changes, Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) protein expression levels in multiple organs (the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and lungs), toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) protein levels (only in the liver), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) protein levels (only in the lung), and terminal deoxynucleotidy transferase mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate (dUTP) nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining expression levels, as well as the serum contents of amylase, glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (GPT), glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatinine (CREA) were observed. Results:The mortality rate of the dexamethasone treated group was significantly lower than that of the model control group (P<0.05). The pathological changes in multiple organs in the two treated groups were relieved to different degrees (P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively), the expression levels of Bax and NF-κB proteins, and apoptotic indexes of multiple organs were reduced (P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively). The contents of amylase, GPT, GOT, BUN, and CREA in the two treated groups were significantly lower than those in model control groups (P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively). The expression level of ICAM-1 protein in the lungs (at 3 and 12 h) in the dexamethasone treated group was significantly lower than that in the Salvia miltiorrhiza treated group (P<0.05). The serum contents of CREA (at 12 h) and BUN (at 6 h) of the Salvia miltiorrhiza treated group were significantly lower than those in the dexamethasone treated group (P<0.05). 5Impact of Heat Wave in 2005 on Mortality in Guangzhou, China显示文摘Objective To assess the impact of the heat wave in 2005 on mortality among the residents in Guangzhou and to identify susceptible subpopulations in Guangzhou, China. Methods The data of daily number of deaths and meteorological measures from 2003 to 2006 in Guangzhou were used in this study. Heat wave was defined as ≥7 consecutive days with daily maximum temperature above 35.0 ℃ and daily mean temperature above the 97th percentile during the study period. The excess deaths and rate ratio (RR) of mortality in the case period compared with the reference period in the same summer were calculated. Results During the study period, only one heat wave in 2005 was identified and the total number of excess deaths was 145 with an average of 12 deaths per day. The effect of the heat wave on non-accidental mortality (RR=1.23, 95% CI: 1.11-1.37) was found with statistically significant difference. Also, greater effects were observed for cardiovascular mortality (RR=1.34, 95% CI: 1.13-1.59) and respiratory mortality (RR=1.31, 95% CI: 1.02-1.69). Females, the elderly and people with lower socioeconomic status were at significantly higher risk of heat wave-associatedmortality. Conclusion The 2005 heat wave had a substantial impact on mortality among the residents in Guangzhou, particularly among some susceptible subpopulations. 8Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. 10Comparison of Xpert MTB/RIF, Real Amp, and CPA Tests in Detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis显示文摘Today, tuberculosis (TB) remains a global public health threat associated with significantly high rates of morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Report 2018[1] has reported that in 2017, 10.0 million people across the world had developed TB diseases that resulted in an estimated 1.6 million deaths, and 889, 000 people developed TB in China that led to 39, 000 TB-related deaths. Therefore, rapid and accurate detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is important for initiating early treatment and reducing mortality. 11Clinical and genetic findings in a Chinese family with VDR-associated hereditary vitamin D-resistant rickets显示文摘Hereditary vitamin D-resistant rickets(HVDRR) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe rickets,hypocalcemia,hypophosphatemia,secondary hyperparathyroidism,and elevated alkaline phosphatase.This disorder is caused by homogeneous or heterogeneous mutations affecting the function of the vitamin D receptor(VDR),which lead to complete or partial target organ resistance to the action of 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D.A non-consanguineous family of Chinese Han origin with one affected individual demonstrating HVDRR was recruited,with the proband evaluated clinically,biochemically and radiographically.To identify the presence of mutations in the VDR gene,all the exons and exon–intron junctions of the VDR gene from all family members were amplified using PCR and sequenced.The proband showed rickets,progressive alopecia,hypocalcemia,hypophosphatemia,secondary hyperparathyroidism,and elevated alkaline phosphatase.She also suffered from epilepsy,which is rarely seen in patients with HVDRR.Direct sequencing analysis revealed a homozygous missense mutation c.122G4A(p.C41Y) in the VDR gene of the proband,which is located in the first zinc finger of the DNA-binding domain.Both parents had a normal phenotype and were found to be heterozygous for this mutation.We report a Chinese Han family with one individual affected with HVDRR.A homozygous missense mutation c.122G4A(p.C41Y) in the VDR gene was found to be responsible for the patient's syndrome.In contrast to the results of treatment of HVDRR in other patients,our patient responded well to a supplement of oral calcium and a low dose of calcitriol.Qianqian Pang Xuan Qi Yan Jiang Ou Wang Mei Li Xiaoping Xing Jin Dong Weibo Xia 2016Bone Research2016,4,1:9

17Validity of the Chinese Version of the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) in Lung Cancer Patients显示文摘The prevalence of malnutrition is high among oncology patients in China. Although the Patient- Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) is widely recognized as an important nutritional assessment tool, it has not been validated for Chinese cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to conduct an analysis of nutrition screening and assessment data to validate the Chinese version of the PG-SGA in Chinese patients with lung cancer. This was an observational, cross-sectional study of 2,000 consecutive adult patients with lung cancer treated at several tertiary hospitals in China. Anthropometric and patient descriptive data were collected. The PG-SGA generated a score for the nutritional risk and a global rating for the nutritional status. The internal consistency, external consistency, and construct validity were evaluated, and a known-groups comparison and principal component analyses were conducted to evaluate the reliability and validity of the PG-SGA. The known-groups comparison demonstrated the ability of the PG-SGA to differentiate lung cancer patients of different nutritional and body mass index (BMI) groups. A confirmatory factor analysis supported the original four-factor structure of the PG-SGA. In terms of the internal and external consistency, the PG-SGA demonstrated intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) up to 0.987. Alternative form validity was also demonstrated between Box 4 of the PG-SGA and the Karnofsky Performance Status score, with excellent external consistency (r = 0.972, P < 0.001). The construct validity was supported, and selected questionnaire dimensions were evident in the principal component analysis. Significant Spearman correlations (P < 0.001) were demonstrated. The Chinese version of the PG-SGA demonstrated significant reliability and sufficient exploratory properties to support its validity. It seems to be a valid tool that can be used to access the nutritional status of Chinese lung cancer patients. 18The Association of Socioeconomic Status with the Burden of Cataract-related Blindness and the Effect of Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure: An Ecological Study显示文摘Objective To assess the association of socioeconomic status with the burden of cataract blindness in terms of year lived with disability(YLD) rates and to determine whether ultraviolet radiation(UVR) levels modify the effect of socioeconomic status on this health burden.Methods National and subnational age-standardized YLD rates associated with cataract-related blindness were derived from the Global Burden of Disease(GBD) study 2017. The human development index(HDI) from the Human Development Report was used as a measure of socioeconomic status.Estimated ground-level UVR exposure was obtained from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument(OMI)dataset of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA).Results Across 185 countries, socioeconomic status was inversely associated with the burden of cataract blindness. Countries with a very high HDI had an 84% lower age-standardized YLD rate [95%confidence interval(CI): 60%–93%, P < 0.001] than countries with a low HDI;for high-HDI countries, the proportion was 76%(95% CI: 53%–88%, P < 0.001), and for medium-HDI countries, the proportion was48%(95% CI: 15%–68%, P = 0.010;P for trend < 0.001). The interaction analysis showed that UVR exposure played an interactive role in the association between socioeconomic status and cataract blindness burden(P value for interaction = 0.047).Conclusion Long-term high-UVR exposure amplifies the association of poor socioeconomic status with the burden of cataract-related blindness. 19Effects of angiopoietin-1 on attachment and metastasis of human gastric cancer cell line BGC-823显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effects of angiopoietin-1(Ang-1) on adhesion of gastric cancer cell line BGC-823 and expression of integrinβ1,CD44V6,urokinase-type plasminogen activator(uPA)and matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2). METHODS:BGC-823 cells were transfected transiently with adenovirus-Ang-1(Ad-Ang-1).Cells transfected transiently with adenovirus-green fluorescent protein (Ad-GFP)and untransfected cells were used as a negative and blank control group,respectively.The cell adhesion rate between cell and extracellular matrix(ECM)was determined by cell adhesion assay. To investigate whether Ang-1 could reinforce gastric carcinoma metastasis,we performed migration and invasion assays in BGC-823 cells.The mRNA and protein expression of integrinβ1,CD44V6,uPA and MMP-2 were detected by reverse transcription polymerasechain reaction and Western blotting,respectively.The expression of integrinβ1 and CD44V6 was measured by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS:BGC-823 cells were transfected successfully. The adhesion rate increased significantly in the Ad- Ang-1 group(P<0.05).The Ad-Ang-1-transfected group had a significant increase in migration and invasion compared with that of the mock-transfected and Ad-GFP groups.The mRNA and protein expression of integrinβ1,CD44V6,uPA and MMP-2 in the Ad-Ang-1 group was higher than that in the Ad-GFP and blank control groups(P<0.05).Compared with mock- transfected and Ad-GFP groups,integrinβ1 and CD44V6 expression intensity greatly increased(P<0.05). 20Ascorbic acid secretion in the human stomach and the effect of gastrin显示文摘AIM To investigate the changes of gastricmucosal ascorbic acid secretion in patients withnonulcer dyspepsia and the effect of gastrin onit,and to relate any observed changes to H.pylori infection and mucosal histology.METHODS Ascorbic acid secretions in patientswere examined by collecting continuouslygastric juice for one hour after having aspiratedand discarded fasting gastric juice.Using theclearance rate(mL/min)of ascorbic acid fromblood to gastric juice represented ascorbic acidsecretion in the gastric mucosa.Ascorbic acidconcentrations in plasma and juice weremeasured by ferric reduced method.RESULTS Gastric ascorbic acid secretions inH.pylori-positive patients(1.46 mL/min,range0.27-3.78)did not significantly differ fromthose in H.pylori-negative patients(1.25 mL/min,0.47-3.14)(P>0.05).There were nosignificant differences in ascorbic acidsecretions between patients with mild(1.56 mL/min,0.50-3.30),moderate(1.34 mL/min,0.27-2.93)and severe(1.36 mL/min,0.47-3.78)inflammation(P>0.05).There were nosignificant differences in ascorbic acidsecretions between patients without activity(l.45mL/min,0.27-3.14)and with mild(1.32mL/min,0.61-2.93),moderate(1.49mL/min,0.50-3.78)and severe(1.43 mL/min,0.51-3.26)activity of chronic gastritis either(P>0.05).Ascorbic acid secretions in patientswith severe atrophy(0.56 mL/min,0.27-1.20)were markedly lower than those in patientswithout atrophy(1.51 mL/min,0.59-3.30)and with mild(1.43 mL/ min,0.53-3.78)andmoderate(1.31 mL/min,0.47-3.16)atrophy(P<0.005).There was a significant negativecorrelation between ascorbic acid secretion andseverity of atrophy(correlation coefficient=-0.43,P<0.005).After administration ofpentagastrin,ascorbic acid secretions weremarkedly elevated(from 1.39 mL/min,0.36-2.96 to 3.53mL/min,0.84-5.91)(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Ascorbic acid secretion ingastric mucosa is not affected by H.pyloriinfection.Gastric ascorbic acid secretion ismarkedly related to the severity of atrophy,whereas not related to the severity ofinflammation and activity.Gastrin may stimulategastric ascorbic acid secretion.A decreasedascorbic acid secretion may be an importantfactor in the link between atrophic gastritis andgastric carcinogenesis.Bi Guang Tuo Yong Hui Yan Zheng Long Ge Gang Wei Ou Kui Zhao 2000World Journal of Gastroenterology2000,6,5:6
