| 1 | Numerical simulation for the coupling effect of local atmospheric circulations over the area of Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei Province显示文摘Using the model system MM5.V3 and multi-layer grid nesting technique, we have done a multi-scale numerical simulation over the area of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province to analyze the temperature and wind field there and study its local circulations. The results show a coupling effect of Urban Heat Island Circulation (UHIC), Mountain Valley Breeze (MVB) and Sea Land Breeze (SLB) occurs in this area when the synoptic system is weak. The SLB can penetrate deep into the mainland for about 200 km when it is blooming. MVB can extend to south and cover almost the whole plain area in Beijing. Both MVB and SLB are diurnal periodical; meanwhile the phase of MVB drops behind that of SLB for about six hours. As a local circulation, the UHIC weakens the two circulations above, and it also has a diurnal period. As a result, the coupling effect of circulations reveals not only different features in spring-summer period and autumn-winter period in a year but also the difference between early morn- ing to noonday and afternoon to night in a day. We noted the diffusion of contamination over the area around Beijing, and found the steady presence of a transport routine of contamination over North-China throughout the year caused by the Coupling Effect mentioned above. | 3 | Pediatric reference intervals in China(PRINCE):design and rationale for a large,multicenter collaborative cross-sectional study显示文摘There is a lack of accurate pediatric reference intervals(RIs) in China, with most commonly used RIs established without consideration of the effect of age and gender. The Pediatric Reference Intervals in China(PRINCE) project aims to establish and verify pediatric RIs for 31 common laboratory measurands.The project will be a large, multicenter cross-sectional study:14,490 healthy children and adolescents aged up to 19 years will be surveyed by 10 children's hospitals and one pediatric department of a university hospital. To evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of the study methods, 602 children were surveyed in the pilot phase of the PRINCE study in April 2017: it found that some measurands were distinctly age dependent and that there were differences between values for males and females. The results of the pilot study affirmed the necessity of the PRINCE project for Chinese pediatrics. The pilot also indicated potential difficulties in the full survey, e.g., difficulties in recruiting children aged under 3 years and insufficient collection of blood samples from infants. | 5 | Foraging strategies in the greater horseshoe bat(Rhinolophus ferrumequinum)on Lepidoptera in summer显示文摘The diet of the bat Rhinolophus ferrumequinum was studied at the Zhi’an Village of Ji’an City in China, from June to August 2004. The bats were trained in a laboratory (volume: 9×4×4 m3). Foraging strategies of the bat were ob- served at night and prey remains were collected and identi- fied. The results showed that the diet consisted mainly of Lepidoptera in summer, including 11 families, more than 30 species of moths, such as Noctuidae (36.6% by number), Sphingidae (24.1%), Geometridae (13.4%) and Limacodidae (9.5%). The length of culled wings ranged from 10―40 mm (97.7%). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the bat R. ferrumequinum foraged their prey selectively, but not op- portunistically. From field studies, two ways were observed in which the bats retrieved their prey including aerial hawk- ing during peak active period of the insects and flycatching during the insects’ non-peak activity period. | 6 | Improvement of catalytic stability for CO_2 reforming of methane by copper promoted Ni-based catalyst derived from layered-double hydroxides显示文摘Copper-promoted nickel-based metal nanoparticles(NPs) with high dispersion and good thermal stability were derived from layered-double hydroxides(LDHs) precursors that were facilely developed by a coprecipitation strategy.The copper-promoted Ni-based metal NPs catalysts were investigated for methane reforming with carbon dioxide to hydrogen and syngas.A series of characterization techniques including XRD,N_2 adsorption and desorption,H_2-TPR,XPS,CO_2-TPD,TEM,TGA and in situ CH_4-TPSR were utilized to determine the structure-function relationship for the obtained catalysts.The copper addition accelerated the catalyst reducibility as well as the methane activation,and made the Ni species form smaller NPs during both preparation and reaction by restricting the aggregation.However,with higher copper loading,the derived catalysts were less active during methane reforming with CO_2 to syngas.It was confirmed that the catalyst with 1 wt%Cu additive gave the higher catalytic activity and remained stable during long time reaction with excellent resistance to coking and to sintering.Furthermore,the mean size of metal NPs changed minimally from 6.6 to 7.9 nm even after 80 h of time on stream at temperature as high as700℃ for this optimized catalyst.Therefore,this high dispersed anti-coking copper-promoted nickel catalyst derived from LDHs precursor could be prospective catalyst candidate for the efficient heterogeneous catalysis of sustainable CO_2 conversion. | Bing Li Zhenxin Xu Fangli Jing Shizhong Luo Ning Wang Wei Chu | 2016 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2016,25,6: | 5 |
| 7 | Evaluating Suitability of Multiple Precipitation Products for the Lancang River Basin显示文摘Global reanalysis precipitation products could provide valuable meteorological information for flow forecasting in poorly gauged areas, helping to overcome a long-standing challenge in the field. But not all data sources are suitable for all regions or perform the same way in hydrological modeling, so it is essential to test the suitability of precipitation products before applying them. In this study, five widely used global high-resolution precipitation products—Asian Precipitation Highly Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation of Water Resources(APHRODITE), National Centers for Environmental Prediction Climate Forecast System Reanalysis(NCEP-CFSR), Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station Data(CHIRPS), China Gauge-based Daily Precipitation Analysis developed by China Meteorological Administration(CMA) and Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project based on the NASA Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications(AgMERRA)—were evaluated using statistical methods and a hydrological approach for their suitability for the Lancang River Basin. The results indicated that APHRODITE, CMA, AgMERRA and CHIRPS were more accurate precipitation indicators than NCEP-CFSR in terms of the multiyear average and seasonal spatial distribution pattern, all of the CHIRPS, Ag MERRA and APHRODITE perform better than CMA and NCEP-CFSR at the small, medium and high precipitation intensities ranges in subbasin11 and sunbabsin46. All five products performed better in subbasin46(a low-altitude region) than in subbasin11(a high-altitude region) on the daily and monthly scales. In addition to NCEP-CFSR, the other four products all presented encouraging potential for streamflow simulation at daily(Yunjinghong) and monthly(Yunjinghong, Jiuzhou and Gajiu) scale. Hydrological simulations forced with APHRODITE were the best of the five for the Yunjinghong station in capturing daily and monthly measured streamflow. | 8 | Correlation between echolocation calls and morphological features among three kinds of bats显示文摘The correlation between echolocation sound and morphological features of 18 species of bats, which are subordinated to 3 families including rhinolophidae, hipposideridae and vespertilionidae is studied. Pearson's correlation and regression analysis are adopted to analyze the correlations between noseleaf width (NW) and forearm length (FAL), NW and dominant frequency (DF), FAL and DF. The results show a positive correlation between NW and FAL and a negative correlation between NW and DF in Rhinolophidae. In each family, there is a negative correlation between FAL and DF. Some species have a higher or lower frequency than predicted one according to their body size. There are significant differences of the regression equation of FAL and DF among the three families. For the bats with the same body size, the order in frequency is: hipposiderid bats> rhinolophid bats> vespertilionid bats. | 9 | Antimicrobial effect of sodium houttuyfonate on Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans biofilms显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To study antimicrobial effect of Sodium houttuyfonate(SH) on Staphylococcus epidermidis(SE) and Candida albicans(CA). METHODS: The prepared strain broths(OD600 =0.05) containing SE and CA were firstly used to test the minimal inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of SH, azithromycin(AZM) and fluconazole(FLU) by micro-dilution method. Then the biofilms of SE and CA were matured in 96-well plates, and co-cultured with SH, AZM and FLU for 1, 2 and 3 days to assess the antibiofilm efficacies of the agents with different concentrations by crystal violet staining method. At last, the treated biofilms of SE and CA by 2× MIC agents were observed by scanning electronic microscope. RESULTS: The MICs of SE and CA were 256 and 1024 μg/mL, respectively. After the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day of medications, the suppressions of biofilm were about 60%(P<0.01), 76%(P=0.000) and 75%(P=0.000) by 2×MIC SH, the suppressions of biofilm were about 90%(P=0.000), 88%(P=0.000) and 90%(P=0.000) by 2×MIC SH, which could be testified by scanning electron microscope results. However, the inhibitions of biofilm attachment had no significant difference for SE by SH and azithromycin and CA by SH and fluconazole. | 10 | A comparison study of the simulation accuracy between WRF and MM5 in simulating local atmospheric circulations over Greater Beijing显示文摘Several multi-scale numerical simulation experiments were carried out using the mesoscale modeling systems MM5V3.7 and WRFV2.2 for Greater Beijing to estimate the accuracy of WRF and MM5 in simulating the characteristics and variations of mesoscale local circulation in the atmospheric boundary layer of this area. We simulated the horizontal distribution and diurnal variations of temperature and wind fields near the ground and compared them with Automatic Weather System (AWS) data collected from 19 AWS stations in Beijing. Correlation and error analyses were also made. The modeling and statistical results showed that both WRF and MM5 model the temperature field near the ground significantly better than they model the wind field. The temperature field simulated by MM5 is more coincident than that of WRF with the AWS observation records, while WRF does better than MM5 in simulating the wind field, especially under the condition of gusty wind. Neither WRF nor MM5 can capture the fine structure of urban architectural complexity, which is the main error in the wind field simulation. Both models underestimate the land surface temperature at night and overestimate the temperature during the day. | 11 | Mortality of Dementia and Its Major Subtypes in Urban and Rural Communities of Beijing显示文摘Objective To identify the mortality and epidemiological pattern of dementia and its various major subtypes among urban and rural senior residents in Beijing.Methods Based on Beijing's dementia prevalence survey among residents aged 55 years and above in 1997,respondents were selected by stratified multiple‐stage cluster sampling and 12 urban communities and 17 rural village communities were randomly sampled then follow‐up in 2001.COX regression was used to analyze relative risks controllingconfounding factors on deaths of dementia cases.Results The mortality of dement patients in the 55‐64 age‐group was 0.82/100 person‐year.The age‐standardized mortality of dement cases was 0.90/100 person‐year.The mortality in the 65 and above age‐group was 1.44/100 person‐year,and the age‐standardized mortality was 1.56/100 person‐year.Among AD cases,the above two mortalities were 0.35/100 and 0.42/100 person‐year respectively,and among VaD cases,0.34/100 and 0.36/100 person‐year respectively.For both AD and VaD cases,their mortality increased with age.Region,gender and age were more significant to survival of AD cases.Conclusion One major subtype of dementia,AD,among elderly urban and rural residents in Beijing,has a different mortality and epidemiological pattern from VaD. | WEN HongBo ZHANG ZhenXin HUANG JueBin DUAN LeiLei WANG QingHua | 2011 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,5: | 4 |
| 12 | Efficacy and safety of rasagiline in Chinese patients with early Parkinson’s disease:a randomized, double-blind,parallel,placebo-controlled,fixed-dose study显示文摘Background:Rasagiline is a monoamine oxidase-B inhibitor used for Parkinson’s disease(PD)treatment,but its effectiveness on Chinese patients is unclear.This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of rasagiline monotherapy in Chinese patients with early PD.Methods:A 26-weeks,randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled study has been performed at 15 sites in China and enrolled outpatients(≥35 years old)with idiopathic PD without a history of using any dopaminergic drugs.Participants were randomized 1:1 to receive rasagiline 1 mg once daily or placebo.The primary endpoint was the change of the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS)total score from baseline to 26 weeks treatment.Secondary endpoints included changes in UPDRS subscale scores from part Ⅰ to Ⅲ.Health status was assessed with the PD Questionnaire(PDQ)-39 and EuroQol-Five-Dimension(EQ-5D)questionnaire.Safety profile was collected until 30 weeks after randomization.Results:A total of 130 patients(n=65/group)were recruited,and 127(rasagiline,n=64;placebo,n=63)were included in the full analysis set.Baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups.The decrease in the mean UPDRS total score was greater in the rasagiline group than in the placebo group(−3.18±0.95 vs.−0.18±0.98,P=0.025),and the mean UPDRS part I non-motor symptoms score(−0.54±0.15 vs.-0.08±0.15,P=0.003)were significantly decreased in the rasagiline group compared with placebo treated patients.An improvement trend was observed in the active treatment group for the subscales evaluation with parts Ⅱ and Ⅲ,while the difference to placebo was not statistically significant.Life quality assessed by the EQ-5D visual analog scale improved in the rasagiline group but worsened in placebo treated patients.The overall incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events(AEs)was slightly lower in the rasagiline group(41.5%)than in the placebo group(46.2%).Conclusions:Rasagiline is effective,safe,and well tolerated as monotherapy for the treatment of Chinese PD patients. | Zhenxin Zhang Jian Wang Shengdi Chen Chunfeng Liu Baorong Zhang Rong Peng Shenggang Sun Xiangru Sun Gang Zhao Qiumin Qu Yansheng Li Suiqiang Zhu Xiaoping Pan Ming Shao Yanping Wang | 2018 | Translational Neurodegeneration2018,7,1: | 3 |
| 13 | Measurement and Scaling of Mercury on Soil and Air in a Historical Artisanal Gold Mining Area in Northeastern China显示文摘The Jiapigou gold mine area, located in the upper reaches of the Songhua River, was the first and largest artisanal gold mine once in China, and it used to be prominent in two marking years(1870 and 1974). Jiapigou area had a gold mining history of more than 190 years, which was first opened in 1820. Gold extraction with algamation was applied as the dominant method of excavation from 1940 to 2008, and a total of more than 100 t of gold were extracted from the mine using this method and it was estimated that 100–200 t Hg were released, thus causing severe mercury environmental pollution in the mining area. In the experimental campaigns of this study, in situ air and soil Hg concentrations and air-soil Hg fluxes were measured from April 2009 to December 2011. The results showed that in the study area the total gaseous mercury(TGM) concentration exhibited remarkable spatial and temporal distribution patterns, i.e. the TGM gradually decreased following the increase in distance to gold mining sites in space, and the values in spring, summer and autumn were elevated by 1–2 orders of magnitude in comparison with those in winter. Furthermore, at other sampling sites the total soil mercury(TSM) concentration in spring was higher than that in autumn, except for the contrary laws demonstrated at the Erdaogou mining site. However, in spring and winter the Hg flux between air and soil was under the control of different environmental factors, and the characteristics were clear and distinct. In spring the Hg flux between air and soil was directly under the control of solar irradiation, and the releasing process was predominant with a remarkable positive correlation to solar irradiation. Nevertheless, in winter the Hg fluxes were indirectly under the control of solar irradiation, which caused thermal inversion due to the thick snow cover. | 14 | The comparison of ensemble or deterministic dispersion modeling on global dispersion during Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear accident显示文摘Ensemble forcasting,originally developed for weather prediction,is lately being extended to atmospheric dispersion applications,which is a new,effective methodology for improving the atmospheric dispersion numerical modeling.In March 2011,due to the massive 9.0 earthquakes and ensuing tsunami that struck off the northern coast of the island of Honshu,the Fukushima Nuclear Plant I had the substantial leak of radioactive materials into surrounding environment and atmosphere.To aim at the global dispersion modeling of atmospheric radionuclides from Fukushima Nuclear Accident,this paper presents two approaches of atmospheric dispersion forecasting:ensemble dispersion modeling(EDM) and deterministic dispersion modeling(DDM),conducts the globally dispersion modeling cases for Fukushima nuclear accident,and analyzes and evaluates the simulation results using observation data.In this paper,EDM includes three different perturbation methods:meteorological perturbation method,turbulence perturbation method,and physical parameterization ensemble forecasting method.The simulation results show that the trajectories from EDM have a better performance,which is in better agreement with the atmospheric circulation and observation data; the spread from DDM is slower and not as far as EDM.Additionally,the results from EDM display a better performance in the modeling of transport from Japan to China East Sea on April 4.The reasons for these results are:the techniques of MET and TUR are performed by adding perturbations on mean wind and turbulent velocity,respectively; the various different flow fields will result in far spreading in horizontal and the simulation results closer to observation; PHY is performed by using different diffusion physical parameterizations and produces the perturbations on vertical wind,which results the spreading in smaller range and discontinuous in horizontal.Finally,the comparative analysis between modeling results and observation data shows that all cases results are in good agreement with trends of observed radionuclides surface concentration; however,the modeling surface concentration is smaller than observation,especially in DDM and PHY.Furthermore,the EDM results show that MET and TUR are of more evolutionary advantage than PHY in modeling of average and maximum concentration.Therefore,this study can serve as a reference to atmospheric dispersion and environmental emergency response(EER). | SHENG Li SONG ZhenXin HU JiangKai Lü Kai TONG Hua LI Bing QIAO QingDang | 2015 | Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,3: | 3 |

It is found that the microcrystalline magnesite has uniformly distributed grains,mostly in the range of 2-4 μm,and the MgO content is47. 80%. In fused magnesia,the druses are colorless transparent periclase megacrysts without impurity,while the crust sand is white,with a high MgO content up to97%-99%. The periclase crystals are big,appearing as faced and step-growth morphology. | 17 | Echolocation calls of Myotis frater (Chiroptera: Hipposi- deridae) during search flight显示文摘Echolocation calls of Myotis frater emitted during the search phase consist of brief frequency-modulated pulses. The sound signals are comprised of three harmonics of which the first one is of the highest intensity and occurs in all echolocation calls. The frequency of this fundamental harmonic ranges from 110.8 to 50.2 kHz, and its duration is about 3.5 ms.
