2More than Carbon Stocks:A Case Study of Ecosystem-based Benefits of REDD+ in Indonesia显示文摘During the 15th Conference of the Parties(COP 15),Parties agreed that reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and enhancing 'removals of greenhouse gas emission by forests'(REDD+) in developing countries through positive incentives under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) was capable of dealing with global emissions.As REDD+ seeks to lower emissions by stopping deforestation and forest degradation with an international payment tier according to baseline scenarios,opportunities for ecosystem benefits such as slowing habitat fragmentation,conservation of forest biodiversity,soil conservation may be also part of this effort.The primary objective of this study is to evaluate ecosystem-based benefits of REDD+,and to identify the relationships with carbon stock changes.To achieve this goal,high resolution satellite images are combined with Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) to identify historical deforestation in study area of Central Kalimantan,Indonesia.The carbon emissions for the period of 2000-2005 and 2005-2009 are 2.73 × 10 5 t CO 2 and 1.47 × 10 6 t CO 2 respectively,showing an increasing trend in recent years.Dring 2005-2009,number of patches(NP),patch density(PD),mean shape index distribution(SHAPE_MN) increased 30.8%,30.7% and 7.6%.Meanwhile,largest patch index(LPI),mean area(AREA_MN),area-weighted mean of shape index distribution(SHAPE_AM),neighbor distance(ENN_MN) and interspersion and juxtaposition index(IJI) decreased by 55.3%,29.7%,15.8%,53.4% and 21.5% respectively.The area regarding as positive correlation between carbon emissions and soil erosion was approximately 8.9 × 10 3 ha corresponding to 96.0% of the changing forest.These results support the view that there are strong synergies among carbon loss,forest fragmentation and soil erosion in tropical forests.Such mechanism of REDD+ is likely to present opportunities for multiple benefits that fall outside the scope of carbon stocks.LU Heli YAN Weiyang QINYaochen LIU Guifang 2012Chinese Geographical Science2012,22,4:6
3Blocking the JAK2/STAT3 and ERK pathways suppresses the proliferation of gastrointestinal cancers by inducing apoptosis显示文摘Dysregulated crosstalk between different signaling pathways contributes to tumor development,including resistance to cancer therapy.In the present study,we found that the mitogen-activated extracellular signal-regulated kinase(MEK)inhibitor trametinib failed to suppress the proliferation of PANC-1 and MGC803 cells by activating the Janus kinase 2(JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)signaling pathway,while the JAK2 inhibitor fedratinib failed to inhibit the growth of the PANC-1 cells upon stimulation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)signaling.In particular,the most prominent enhancement of the anti-proliferative effect resulted from the concurrent blockage of the JAK2/STAT3 and ERK signaling pathways.Furthermore,the combination of the two inhibitors resulted in a reduced tumor burden in mice.Our evidence suggests novel crosstalk between JAK2/STAT3 and ERK signaling in gastric cancer(GC)and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)cells and provides a therapeutic strategy to overcome potential resistance in gastrointestinal cancer.Xi WANG Chunyan DAI Yifei YIN Lin WU Weiyang JIN Yufei FU Zhe CHEN Ke HAO Bin LU 2021Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2021,22,6:4
4Phosphorylation of a wheat aquaporin at two sites enhances both plant growth and defense显示文摘Eukaryotic aquaporins share the characteristic of functional multiplicity in transporting distinct substrates and regulating various processes,but the underlying molecular basis for this is largely unknown.Here,we report that the wheat(Triticum aestivum)aquaporin TaPIP2;10 undergoes phosphorylation to promote photosynthesis and productivity and to confer innate immunity against pathogens and a generalist aphid pest.In response to elevated atmospheric CO_(2)concentrations,TaPIP2;10 is phosphorylated at the serine residue S280 and thereafter transports CO_(2)into wheat cells,resulting in enhanced photosynthesis and increased grain yield.In response to apoplastic H_(2)O_(2) induced by pathogen or insect attacks,TaPIP2;10 is phosphorylated at S121 and this phosphorylated form transports H_(2)O_(2) into the cytoplasm,where H_(2)O_(2)intensifies host defenses,restricting further attacks.Wheat resistance and grain yield could be simultaneously increased by TaPIP2;10 overexpression or by expressing a TaPIP2;10 phosphomimic with aspartic acid substitutions at S121 and S280,thereby improving both crop productivity and immunity.Kai Lu Xiaochen Chen Xiaohui Yao Yuyan An Xuan Wang Lina Qin Xiaoxu Li Zuodong Wang Shuo Liu Zhimao Sun Liyuan Zhang Lei Chen Baoyan Li Baoyou Liu Weiyang Wang Xinhua Ding Yonghua Yang Meixiang Zhang Shenshen Zou Hansong Dong 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,11:2

7Expression for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma in pituitary adenomas 38 cases for semi-quantitative immunohistochemical analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND: It has been reported that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ(PPARγ) is highly expressed in lung cancer, colon cancer, and gastric cancer, as well as other tumors. OBJECTIVE: To study expression of PPARγin pituitary adenomas and analyze the role of PPARγin hormonal typing of pituitary adenomas. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Semi-quantitative immunohistochemistry of pathological specimens. The experiment was conducted at the Department of Neurosurgery, Wuxi Second Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University between January 2002 and May 2005. MATERIALS: Surgical resection samples of pituitary adenomas from 38 cases (18 male and 20 female) were analyzed. Eight cases were determined to be invasive pituitary adenomas and 30 cases were non-invasive pituitary adenomas. Hormonal classification of the types of pituitary adenomas revealed somatotrophic adenomas in six cases, corticotrophic adenoma in five cases, prolactinomas in 13 cases, multi-hormone secreting adenomas in six cases, and eight cases of adenoma without altered endocrine function. Five autopsy specimens were collected during the same period from patients of matching age that died from unrelated diseases and were included as normal anterior pituitary controls. METHODS: Cell counts for positive immunohistochemical signals were recorded from histopathological sections. The percentage of positive cells was reported as a semi-quantitative analysis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The rate of PPARγpositive cells in different types of adenoma was based on hormonal levels and invasiveness of pituitary tumor cells. RESULTS: All tumor biopsies were determined to express PPARγ The rate of PPARγ-positive cells ranged between 8%-65% in the pituitary adenomas. According to hormonal type, PPARγexpression did not vary between the groups. In addition, there was no significant difference in PPARγexpression between the non-invasive and invasive pituitary adenomas. 11Scientific objectives of the Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) mission显示文摘The Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) is a proposed space-based X-ray telescope for detecting X-ray emissions from the hot gas content in our universe. With its unprecedented spatially-resolved high-resolution spectroscopy and large field of view,the HUBS mission will be uniquely qualified to measure the physical and chemical properties of the hot gas in the interstellar medium, the circumgalactic medium, the intergalactic medium, and the intracluster medium. These measurements will be valuable for two key scientific goals of HUBS, namely to unravel the AGN and stellar feedback physics that governs the formation and evolution of galaxies, and to probe the baryon budget and multi-phase states from galactic to cosmological scales. In addition to these two goals, the HUBS mission will also help us solve some problems in the fields of galaxy clusters, AGNs, difuse X-ray backgrounds, supernova remnants, and compact objects. 13Computational screening and design of nanoporous membranes for efficient carbon isotope separation显示文摘Stable isotopes have been routinely used in chemical sciences,medical treatment and agricultural research.Conventional technologies to produce high-purity isotopes entail lengthy separation processes that often suffer from low selectivity and poor energy efficiency.Recent advances in nanoporous materials open up new opportunities for more efficient isotope enrichment and separation as the pore size and local chemical environment of such materials can be engineered with atomic precision.In this work,we demonstrate the unique capability of nanoporous membranes for the separation of stable carbon isotopes by computational screening a materials database consisting of 12,478 computation-ready,experimental metal-organic frameworks(MOFs).Nanoporous materials with the highest selectivity and membrane performance scores have been identified for separation of^(12)CH_4/^(13)CH_4 at the ambient condition(300 K).Analyzing the structural features and metal sites of the promising MOF candidates offers useful insights into membrane design to further improve the performance.An upper limit of the efficiency has been identified for the separation of^(12)CH_4/^(13)CH_4 with the existing MOFs and those variations by replacement of the metal sites.Jingqi Wang Musen Zhou Diannan Lu Weiyang Fei Jianzhong Wu 2020Green Energy & Environment2020,5,3:1

16Pulsar giant pulse: Coherent instability near light cylinder显示文摘Giant pulses(GPs) are extremely bright individual pulses of radio pulsar. In microbursts of Crab pulsar, which is an active GP emitter, zebra-pattern-like spectral structures are observed, which are reminiscent of the 'zebra bands' that are observed in type Ⅳ solar radio flares. However, band spacing linearly increases with the band center frequency of ~5-30 GHz. In this study, we propose that the Crab pulsar GP can originate from the coherent instability of plasma near a light cylinder. Further, the growth of coherent instability can be attributed to the resonance observed between the cyclotron-resonant-excited wave and the background plasma oscillation. The particles can be injected into the closed-field line regions owing to magnetic reconnection near a light cylinder. These particles introduce a large amount of free energy that further causes cyclotron-resonant instability, which grows and amplifies radiative waves at frequencies close to the electron cyclotron harmonics that exhibit zebra-pattern-like spectral band structures. Further, these structures can be modulated by the resonance between the cyclotron-resonant-excited wave and the background plasma oscillation. In this scenario, the band structures of the Crab pulsar can be well fitted by a coherent instability model, where the plasma density of a light cylinder should be ~10^(13-15) cm^(-3), with an estimated gradient of >5.5 × 10~5 cm^(-4). This process may be accompanied by high-energy emissions. 17The quantitative proteome atlas of a model cyanobacterium显示文摘Cyanobacteria are a group of oxygenic photosynthetic bacteria with great potentials in biotechnological applications and advantages as models for photosynthesis research. The subcellular localizations of the majority of proteins in any cyanobacteria remain undetermined, representing a major challenge in using cyanobacteria for both basic and industrial researches. Here, using label-free quantitative proteomics, we map 2027 proteins of Synechocystis sp. PCC6803, a model cyanobacterium, to different subcellular compartments and generate a proteome atlas with such information. The atlas leads to numerous unexpected but important findings, including the predominant localization of the histidine kinases Hik33 and Hik27 on the thylakoid but not the plasma membrane. Such information completely changes the concept regarding how the two kinases are activated.
