This paper presents a novel approach to describing quantitatively the characteristics of connected macropores in unconsolidated sandstone reservoirs using in situ production data. Based on physical simulation for formation mechanisms of high capacity channels and interwell tracer test data,a mathematical model was established to describe high-capacity channels by grey correlation theory,glow mechanism of fluid in porous media and reservoir engineering,and a program was developed to describe quantitatively the channel characteristics. | 3 | The enrichment characteristics of mercury in the sediments of Dongjiu and Xijiu, Taihu Lake catchment, in the past century显示文摘The concentration and the enrichment factors of mercury (Hg) in the sediment cores of Dongjiu and Xijiu, Taihu Lake catchment, were studied. The accumulation fluxes, anthropogenic input concentration and anthropogenic accumulation fluxes of Hg in recent 100 years were also analyzed based on the 210Pb dating. The results indicate that the increasing concentrations of Hg in the sediments are influ-enced by natural factors and anthropogenic input simultaneously. Generally, about 2/3 of the Hg in the sediment was from anthropogenic sources. In the early 20th century, the anthropogenic input was owing to the urban development and fossil fuel consumptions surrounding the Taihu Lake and the worldwide atmospheric deposition of Hg since the industrial revolution. The concentration and an-thropogenic fluxes of Hg increased with the industrial development in the catchment since the 1930s. | 6 | Clinical features and the traditional Chinese medicine therapeutic characteristics of 293 COVID-19 inpatient cases显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now pandemic worldwide and has heavily overloaded hospitals in Wuhan City, China during the time between late January and February. We reported the clinical features and therapeutic characteristics of moderate COVID-19 cases in Wuhan that were treated via the integration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine. We collected electronic medical record (EMR) data, which included the full clinical profiles of patients, from a designated TCM hospital in Wuhan. The structured data of symptoms and drugs from admission notes were obtained through an information extraction process. Other key clinical entities were also confirmed and normalized to obtain information on the diagnosis, clinical treatments, laboratory tests, and outcomes of the patients. A total of 293 COVID-19 inpatient cases, including 207 moderate and 86 (29.3%) severe cases, were included in our research. Among these cases, 238 were discharged, 31 were transferred, and 24 (all severe cases) died in the hospital. Our COVID-19 cases involved elderly patients with advanced ages (57 years on average) and high comorbidity rates (61%). Our results reconfirmed several well-recognized risk factors, such as age, gender (male), and comorbidities, as well as provided novel laboratory indications (e.g., cholesterol) and TCM-specific phenotype markers (e.g., dull tongue) that were relevant to COVID-19 infections and prognosis. In addition to antiviral/antibiotics and standard supportive therapies, TCM herbal prescriptions incorporating 290 distinct herbs were used in 273 (93%) cases. The cases that received TCM treatment had lower death rates than those that did not receive TCM treatment (17/273= 6.2% vs. 7/20= 35%, P = 0.0004 for all cases;17/77= 22% vs. 7/9= 77.7%, P = 0.002 for severe cases). The TCM herbal prescriptions used for the treatment of COVID-19 infections mainly consisted of Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Radix Scutellariae, Rhizoma Pinellia, and their combinations, which reflected the practical TCM principles (e.g., clearing heat and dampening phlegm). Lastly, 59% of the patients received treatment, including antiviral, antibiotics, and Chinese patent medicine, before admission. This situation might have some effects on symptoms, such as fever and dry cough. By using EMR data, we described the clinical features and therapeutic characteristics of 293 COVID-19 cases treated via the integration of TCM herbal prescriptions and Western medicine. Clinical manifestations and treatments before admission and in the hospital were investigated. | 11 | Neuroprotective effects of combined lead and cadmium,as well as N-acetylcysteine,on cerebral cortical neurons following lipid peroxidation injury显示文摘BACKGROUND:Studies have reported the antioxidant effects of lead and cadmium in the central nervous system,but very few have addressed the combined toxicity of lead and cadmium.The mechanisms by which these combined heavy metals are toxic,as well as how to protect cells from these agents,remains poorly understood. OBJECTIVE:Primary cultured rat cortical neurons were used to determine the effects of combined lead and cadmium on levels of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px),superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase(CAT),and acetylcholinesterase(AChE),as well as malondialdehyde(MDA),and to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of N-acetylcysteine(NAC). DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:An in vitro toxicological observation was performed at the Comparative Medicine Center of Yangzhou University from August 2007 to April 2008. MATERIALS:Lead acetate,cadmium acetate,and NAC were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich(St. Louis,USA).Commercial kits of GSH-Px,SOD,CAT,AChE,and MDA were purchased from Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute,Nanjing,China. METHODS:The cerebral cortical neurons were isolated from newborn Sprague dawley rats at 24 hours after birth and primary cultured for 6 days.Thereafter,the cells were treated with a range of cadmium doses(0,5.0,and 10.0μmol/L),lead doses(0,1.0,and 2.0μmol/L),or a combination of the two for 12 hours at 37℃in a 5%CO_2 incubator,respectively.In addition,the cells were incubated with different doses of cadmium and/or lead and(0 and 50μmol/L) NAC for 12 hours to assess the protective effects on cell survival. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The activity of SOD,GSH-Px,CAT,and AChE,as well as MDA content,in the cell lysates was detected using commercial kits. RESULTS:At 12 hours after treatment,compared to the control group,activity of GSH-Px,SOD, and AChE in the lead,cadmium,or combined treated cells was significantly decreased with increasing doses of cadmium/or lead(P<0.05),but CAT activity and MDA levels were significantly increased(P<0.05).The combination of cadmium and lead led to higher levels of toxicity than individual exposure. | 12 | High-efficiency simultaneous extraction of rare earth elements and iron from NdFeB waste by oxalic acid leaching显示文摘Iron can not be recovered at high value because only rare earth elements are effectively recovered from NdFeB waste via oxidation roasting-hydrochloric acid leaching process.In this study,a new method for leaching NdFeB waste with oxalic acid was developed.The high-efficiency,simultaneous and high-value recovery of rare earth elements and iron was realized to simplify the process and improve the economic benefit.Results of the oxalic acid leaching experiments show that under the optimum leaching conditions at 90℃ for 6 h in the aqueous solution of oxalic acid(2 mol/L) with a liquid-solid ratio of60 mL/g,the iron leaching efficiency and precipitation rate of rare earth oxalate reach 93.89% and 93.17%,respectively.Rare earth oxalate and Fe(C_(2)O_(4))3^(3-) were left in the residue and the leaching solution,respectively.The leaching mechanism was further analyzed by characterising the leach residues obtained through X-ray powder diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDS).Results of the leaching kinetics study indicate that the process of oxalic acid leaching follows the shrinking nucleus model,and the leaching kinetics model is controlled by the mixed factors of diffusion and chemical reaction.The leaching residue was calcined at 850℃ for 3 h and then decomposed into rare earth oxide,which can be directly used to prepare rare earth alloy via molten salt electrolysis.For the leaching solution,ferric oxalate solution was reduced using Fe powder to prepare the ferrous oxalate(FeC_(2)O_(4)-2H_(2)O). | Qingsheng Liu Tao Tu Hao Guo Huajin Cheng Xuezhong Wang | 2021 | Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,3: | 4 |

| 15 | Expansion of the South China Sea basin:Constraints from magnetic anomaly stripes,sea floor topography,satellite gravity and submarine geothermics显示文摘The widely distributed E-W-trending magnetic anomaly stripes in the central basin and the N-Etrending magnetic anomaly stripes in the southwest sub-basin provide the most important evidence for Neogene expansion of the South China Sea.The expansion mechanism remains,however,controversial because of the lack of direct drilling data,non-systematic marine magnetic survey data,and irregular magnetic anomaly stripes with two obvious directions.For example,researchers have inferred different ages and episodes of expansion for the central basin and southwest sub-basin.Major controversy centers on the order of basinal expansion and the mechanism of expansion for the entire South China Sea basin.This study attempts to constrain these problems from a comprehensive analysis of the seafloor topography,magnetic anomaly stripes,regional aeromagnetic data,satellite gravity,and submarine geothermics.The mapped seafloor terrain shows that the central basin is a north-south rectangle that is relatively shallow with many seamounts,whereas the southwest sub-basin is wide in northeast,gradually narrows to the southwest,and is relatively deeper with fewer seamounts.Many magnetic anomaly stripes are present in the central basin with variable dimensions and directions that are dominantly EWtrending,followed by the NE-,NW- and NS-trending.Conversely such stripes are few in the southwest sub-basin and mainly NE-trending.Regional magnetic data suggest that the NW-trending Ailaoshan-Red River fault extends into the South China Sea,links with the central fault zone in the South China Sea,which extends further southward to Reed Tablemount.Satellite gravity data show that both the central basin and southwest sub-basin are composed of oceanic crust.The Changlong seamount is particularly visible in the southwest sub-basin and extends eastward to the Zhenbei seamount.Also a low gravity anomaly zone coincides with the central fault zone in the sub-basin.The submarine geothermic distribution demonstrates that the southwest sub-basin has a higher geothermal value than the central basin,and that the central fault zone is defined by a low thermal anomaly.This study suggests that NW-SE expansion of the southwest subbasin is later than the N-S expansion of the central basin with the sub-basin extending into the central basin and with both expansions ending at the same time.The expansion of southwestern sub-basin,similar to the Japanese Sea,is likely caused by left-lateral strike slip on the central fault zone in the South China Sea,which may have significance for finding oil and gas in this region. | Xuezhong Yu Chunji Xue Haigang Shi Weiping Zhu Yinghui Liu Hang Yin | 2017 | Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,1: | 3 |

| 17 | A large-scale outdoor atmospheric simulation smog chamber for studying atmospheric photochemical processes:Characterization and preliminary application显示文摘Understanding the formation mechanisms of secondary air pollution is very important for the formulation of air pollution control countermeasures in China.Thus,a large-scale outdoor atmospheric simulation smog chamber was constructed at Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences(the CRAES Chamber),which was designed for simulating the atmospheric photochemical processes under the conditions close to the real atmospheric environment.The chamber consisted of a 56-m^(3) fluorinated ethylene propylene(FEP) Teflon film reactor,an electrically-driven stainless steel alloy shield,an auxiliary system,and multiple detection instrumentations.By performing a series of characterization experiments,we obtained basic parameters of the CRAES chamber,such as the mixing ability,the background reactivity,and the wall loss rates of gaseous compounds(propene,NO,NO_(2),ozone) and aerosols(ammonium sulfate).Oxidation experiments were also performed to study the formation of ozone and secondary organic aerosol(SOA),including α-pinene ozonolysis,propene and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene photooxidation.Temperature and seed effects on the vapor wall loss and SOA yields were obtained in this work:higher temperature and the presence of seed could reduce the vapor wall loss;SOA yield was found to depend inversely on temperature,and the presence of seed could increase SOA yield.The seed was suggested to be used in the chamber to reduce the interaction between the gas phase and chamber walls.The results above showed that the CRAES chamber was reliable and could meet the demands for investigating tropospheric chemistry. | Junling Li Hong Li Xuezhong Wang Weigang Wang Maofa Ge Hao Zhang Xin Zhang Kun Li Yan Chen Zhenhai Wu Fahe Chai Fan Meng Yujing Mu Abdelwahid Mellouki Fang Bi Yujie Zhang Lingyan Wu Yongchun Liu | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,4: | 2 |
