1Age-related rhesus macaque models of COVID-19显示文摘Background:Since December 2019,an outbreak of the Corona Virus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)in Wuhan,China,has become a public health emergency of international concern.The high fatality of aged cases caused by SARS-CoV-2 was a need to explore the possible age-related phenomena with non-human primate models.Methods:Three 3-5 years old and two 15 years old rhesus macaques were intratracheally infected with SARS-CoV-2,and then analyzed by clinical signs,viral replication,chest X-ray,histopathological changes and immune response.Results:Viral replication of nasopharyngeal swabs,anal swabs and lung in old monkeys was more active than that in young monkeys for 14 days after SARS-CoV-2 challenge.Monkeys developed typical interstitial pneumonia characterized by thickened alveolar septum accompanied with inflammation and edema,notably,old monkeys exhibited diffuse severe interstitial pneumonia.Viral antigens were detected mainly in alveolar epithelial cells and macrophages.Conclusion:SARS-CoV-2 caused more severe interstitial pneumonia in old monkeys than that in young monkeys.Rhesus macaque models infected with SARS-CoV-2 provided insight into the pathogenic mechanism and facilitated the development of vaccines and therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2 infection.Pin Yu Feifei Qi Yanfeng Xu Fengdi Li Peipei Liu Jiayi Liu Linlin Bao Wei Deng Hong Gao Zhiguang Xiang Chong Xiao Qi Lv Shuran Gong Jiangning Liu Zhiqi Song Yajin Qu Jing Xue Qiang Wei Mingya Liu Guanpeng Wang Shunyi Wang Haisheng Yu Xing Liu Baoying Huang Wenling Wang Li Zhao Huijuan Wang Fei Ye Weimin Zhou Wei Zhen Jun Han Guizhen Wu Qi Jin Jianwei Wang Wenjie Tan Chuan Qin 2020Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2020,3,1:22

3Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. 4Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 10DRY-WET EVOLUTION IN GUANGDONG PROVINCE DURING LAST 500 YEARS显示文摘Based on the historical records in Guangdong Province during the last 500a, the moist index sequence was reconstructed and analyzed by the correlation analysis, wavelet analysis and the power spectrum analysis. The results indicate that: 1) The El Ni?觡o events have evident correlations with the droughts happened in the west and north of Guangdong Province, which intensified the dryness and wetness distribution patterns in these areas in a certain degree. 2) Good correspondence relations exist among the moist index sequence, Greenland ice core oxygen isotope record and the winter-half-year temperature sequence in the eastern China, which showed an apparent monsoonal disposal pattern of moisture and temperature. 3) By applying the wavelet analysis to deal with the data, several apparent periodicities are revealed, among which some can be attributed to the solar activities. At the same time, the ENSO event, monsoon (especially the East Asian monsoon) activity and the human activity may also have some influences on the periodicities of the climatic changes in Guangdong Province. 4) Guangdong will persist in dry period before 2040(±5 years) though some little waterlogged period will also exist in this interval, and after that great floods maybe take place in Guangdong. 12Next-generation Sequencing Study of Pathogens in Serum from Patients with Febrile Jaundice in Sierra Leone显示文摘Objective People in Western Africa suffer greatly from febrile jaundice, which is caused by a variety of pathogens. However, yellow fever virus(YFV) is the only pathogen under surveillance in Sierra Leone owing to the undeveloped medical and public health system there. Most of the results of YFV identification are negative. Elucidation of the pathogen spectrum is required to reduce the prevalence of febrile jaundice. Methods In the present study, we used Ion Torrent semiconductor sequencing to profile the pathogen spectrum in archived YFV‐negative sera from 96 patients in Sierra Leone who presented with unexplained febrile jaundice. Results The most frequently identified sequencing reads belonged to the following pathogens: cytomegalovirus(89.58%), Epstein‐Barr virus(55.21%), hepatitis C virus(34.38%), rhinovirus(28.13%), hepatitis A virus(20.83%), coxsackievirus(10.42%), Ebola virus(8.33%), hepatitis E virus(8.33%), lyssavirus(4.17%), leptospirosis(4.17%), chikungunya virus(2.08%), Crimean‐Congo hemorrhagic fever virus(1.04%), and hepatitis B virus(1.04%). 18Techniques and instruments used for real-time analysis of atmospheric nanoscale molecular clusters: A review显示文摘The extremely high concentrations of PM2.5(particulate matter with an aerodynamic meter≤2.5 mm)during severe and persistent haze events in China have been closely related to the formation of secondary aerosols(SA).New particle formation(NPF)is the critical initial step of SA formation.New particles are commonly formed from gas-phase precursors(e.g.,SO2,volatile organic compounds)via nucleation and initial growth,in which molecular clusters with a mobility diameter smaller than 3 nm(hereafter referred to nanoscale molecular clusters)will be involved throughout the whole process.Recently,significant breakthroughs have been obtained on NPF studies,which are mostly attributed to the technical development in the real-time analysis of size-resolved number concentration and chemical composition of nanoscale molecular clusters.Regarding the detection of size-resolved number concentrations of nanoscale molecular clusters,both methods and instruments have been well built up;practical application in laboratory-scale experiments and field measurements have also been successfully demonstrated.In contrast,real-time analysis of chemical composition of nanoscale molecular clusters has still encountered the great challenges caused by the complex organic compositions of the clusters,and improvement of present analytical strategies is urgently required.The better understanding in NPF will not only benefit the atmospheric modeling and climate predictions but also the source control of SA.Xue Li Zhen Zhou Zhengxu Huang Wei Gao Mei Li Lei Li 2015Emerging Contaminants2015,1,1:1
19A joint call for actions to advance taxonomy in China显示文摘Taxonomy plays an important role in understanding the origin, evolution, and ecological functionality of biodiversity. There are large number of unknown species yet to be described by taxonomists, which together with their ecosystem services cannot be effectively protected prior to description. Despite this, taxonomy has been increasingly underrated insufficient funds and permanent positions to retain young talents. Further, the impact factordriven evaluation systems in China exacerbate this downward trend, so alternative evaluation metrics are urgently necessary. When the current generation of outstanding taxonomists retires,there will be too few remaining taxonomists left to train the next generation. 20MIR205HG facilitates carcinogenesis of lung squamous cell carcinoma in vitro revealed by long noncoding RNA profiling显示文摘As a subtype of non-small-cell lung cancer,lung squamous cell carcinoma(LUSC)accounts for one-fifth of all lung cancers.Unfortunately,no specific targetable aberration has yet been identified.Hence,it is of huge urgency and potential to identify aberrantly regulated genes in LUSC.Here,five pairs of LUSC samples and their corresponding adjacent tissues were subject to whole transcriptome sequencing.Our results showed that CTD-2562J17.6 and FENDRR were significantly downregulated while MIR205HG,LNC_000378,RP11-116G8.5,RP3-523K23.2,and RP5_968D22.1 were significantly upregulated in all five LUSC samples.Importantly,MIR205HG was upregulated in LUSC clinical samples as well as in LUSC cell lines.Interestingly,our results demonstrated that the expression level of MIR205HG is positively correlated with the malignancy.In addition,MIR205HG is required for LUSC cell growth and cell migration.Most importantly,our results showed that MIR205HG prohibits LUSC apoptosis via regulating Bcl-2 and Bax.Taken together,our data shed lights on the IncRNA regulatory nexus that controls the carcinogenesis of LUSC and provided potential novel diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for LUSC.Yan Chang Xinying Xue Chunsun Li Wei Zhao Yongfu Ma Fei Xu Zhen Wu Yu Dai Yunjing Li Yang Liu Liang’an Chen 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,4:1
