1Schisandra sphenanthera extract(Wuzhi Tablet)protects against chronic-binge and acute alcohol-induced liver injury by regulating the NRF2-ARE pathway in mice显示文摘Alcohol abuse leads to alcoholic liver disease and no effective therapy is currently available.Wuzhi Tablet(WZ), a preparation of extract from Schisandra sphenanthera that is a traditional hepatoprotective herb, exerted a significant protective effect against acetaminophen-induced liver injury in our recent studies, but whether WZ can alleviate alcohol-induced toxicity remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the contribution of WZ to alcohol-induced liver injury by using chronic-binge and acute models of alcohol feeding. The activities of ALT and AST in serum were assessed as well as the level of GSH and the activity of SOD in the liver. The expression of CYP2E1 and proteins in the NRF2-ARE signaling pathway including NRF2, GCLC, GCLM, HO-1 were measured, and the effect of WZ on NRF2 transcriptional activity was determined. We found that both models resulted in liver steatosis accompanied by increased transaminase activities, but that liver injury was significantly attenuated by WZ. WZ administration also inhibited CYP2E1 expression induced by alcohol, and elevated the level of GSH and the activity of SOD in the liver. Moreover, the NRF2-ARE signaling pathway was activated by WZ andthe target genes were all upregulated. Furthermore, WZ significantly activated NRF2 transcriptional activity. 2Advertisement Call Variability in the Black-spined Toad Bufo melanostictus (Anura: Bufonidae) during the Breeding Season in Lishui, Zhejiang, China显示文摘Advertisement calls play an important role in influencing female mate choice and are regarded as one of the key characters responsible for reproductive isolation and speciation events in frogs and toads. The black-spined toad, Bufo melanostictus, is one of the most common amphibians in Southeast Asia and is frequently observed in human habitations throughout its distributional range. The advertisement calls of the toad have not been well described. Here, we report the advertisement calls of this species from Lishui, Zhejiang, China during its breeding season. The advertisement calls of B. melanostictus are composed of single notes with a single harmonic frequency emitted sporadically. The call parameters recorded in this study were highly variable across recording times and with different body sizes. Dominant frequency was negatively correlated with body size. Comparing the calls of the B. melanostictus population from Lishui with the populations from five other localities(Bangkok, Thailand; Coorg, India; Burma, Myanmar; Bali, Indonesia; Halimun-Salak National Park, Indonesia), we found that call structure was similar among five different populations with no harmonics, while the Halimun-Salak National Park population contained two clear harmonics. Dominant frequency was similar between Bali(1.56 kHz) and Coorg(1.6 kHz) populations, while it was highly variable among other populations. Besides call duration, call interval and pulse/call rate may also be significantly different among the comparing populations. 3Star-shaped conjugated oligoelectrolyte for bioimaging in living cells显示文摘A new star-shaped oligoelectrolyte (TEFCOONa) with triphenylamine as the core, acetylene as linkage and anionic fluorenes as arms was obtained and used for direct imaging in living PANC-1 cells. Because of the hydrophobic conjugated groups of the oli-goelectrolyte, TEFCOONa can form nanospheres with an average diameter of^75 nm in 10 mmol/L PBS. These nanospheres possess a relatively high absolute quantum yield (16.5% in PBS), low cytotoxicity and can penetrate into the nucleus through the cytoplasm, which is essential for living cellular imaging. 4Water-soluble light-emitting nanoparticles prepared by non-covalent bond self-assembly of a hydroxyl group functionalized oligo(p-phenyleneethynylene) with different water-soluble polymers显示文摘Water-soluble light-emitting nanoparticles were prepared from hydroxyl group functionalized oligos(p-phenyleneethynylene) (OHOPEL) and water-soluble polymers(PEG,PAA,and PG) by non-covalent bond self-assembly.Their structure and optoelectronic properties were investigated through dynamic light scattering(DLS) ,UV and PL spectroscopy.The optical properties of OHOPEL-based water-soluble nanoparticles exhibited the same properties as that found in OHOPEL films,indicating the existence of interchain-aggregation of OHOPELs in the nanoparticles.OHOPEL-based nanoparticles prepared from conjugated oligomers show smaller size and lower dispersity than nanoparticles from conjugated polymers,which means that the structures of water-soluble nanoparticles are linked to the conjugated length.Furthermore,the OHOPEL/PG and OHOPEL/PAA systems produced smaller particles and lower polydispersity than the OHOPEL/PEG system,indicating that there may exist influence of the strength of non-covalent bonds on the size and degree of dispersity of the nanoparticles.Lu XiaoMei Fan QuLi Zhang GuangWei Pu KanYi Huang Wei 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,5:3

6Antibacterial evaporator based on reduced graphene oxide/polypyrrole aerogel for solar-driven desalination显示文摘Solar-driven water evaporation is a sustainable method to purify seawater.Nevertheless,traditional volumetric water-evaporation systems suffer from the poor sunlight absorption and inefficient light-to-thermal conversion.Also,their anti-bacterial and antifouling performances are crucial for the practical application.Herein,we introduce reduced graphene oxide(RGO)with broadband absorbance across the entire solar spectrum,and polypyrrole(PPy),an antibacterial polymer with efficient solar absorption and low thermal conductivity,to develop integrated RGO/PPy aerogel as both the solar absorber and evaporator for highly efficient solar-driven steam generation.As a result,the RGO/PPy aerogel shows strong absorption and good photothermal performance,leading to an evaporation rate of 1.44 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1)and high salt rejection(up to 99.99%)for real seawater,with photothermal conversion efficiency>90%under one sun irradiation.The result is attributed to the localized heat at the air-water interface by the RGO/PPy and its porous nature with functional groups that facilitates the water evaporation.Moreover,the RGO/PPy demonstrates excellent durability and antibacterial efficiency close to 100%for 12 h,crucial characteristics for longterm application.Our well-designed RGO/PPy aerogel with efficient water desalination performance and antibacterial property provides a straightforward approach to improve the solar-driven evaporation performance by multifunctional materials integration,and offers a viable route towards practical seawater desalination.Mengru Zhang Fan Xu Wenjie Liu Yaqi Hou Liyun Su Xin Zhang Ruihua Zhang Lijun Zhou Xiaomei Yan Miao Wang Xu Hou Yang Cao 2023Nano Research2023,16,4:2

8Saliency-based image correction for colorblind patients显示文摘Improper functioning, or lack, of human cone cells leads to vision defects, making it impossible for affected persons to distinguish certain colors. Colorblind persons have color perception, but their ability to capture color information differs from that of normal people: colorblind and normal people perceive the same image differently. It is necessary to devise solutions to help persons with color blindness understand images and distinguish different colors. Most research on this subject is aimed at adjusting insensitive colors,enabling colorblind persons to better capture color information, but ignores the attention paid by colorblind persons to the salient areas of images. The areas of the image seen as salient by normal people generally differ from those seen by the colorblind. To provide the same saliency for colorblind persons and normal people, we propose a saliency-based image correction algorithm for color blindness. Adjusted colors in the adjusted image are harmonious and realistic, and the method is practical. 9Self-anti-angiogenesis nanoparticles enhance anti-metastatic-tumor efficacy of chemotherapeutics显示文摘Beyond traditional endothelium-dependent vessel(EDV),vascular mimicry(VM)is another critical tumor angiogenesis that further forms in many malignant metastatic tumors.However,the existing anti-angiogenesis combined chemotherapeutics strategies are only efficient for the treatment of EDV-based subcutaneous tumors,but remain a great challenge for the treatment of in situ malignant metastatic tumor associated with EDV and VM.Here,we demonstrate a self-assembled nanoparticle(VE-DDP-Pro)featuring self-anti-EDV and-VM capacity enables to significantly enhance the treatment efficacy of cisplatin(DDP)against the growth and metastasis of ovarian cancer.The VE-DDP-Pro is constructed by patching DDP loaded cRGD-folate-heparin nanoparticles(VE)onto the surface of protamine(Pro)nanoparticle.We demonstrated the self-anti-angiogenesis capacity of VE-DDP-Pro was attributed to VE,which could significantly inhibit the formation of EDV and VM by regulating signaling pathway of MMP-2/VEGF,AKT/mTOR/MMP-2/Laminin and AKT/mTOR/EMT,facilitating chemotherapeutics to effectively suppress the development and metastasis of ovarian cancer.Thus,combing with the chemotherapeutics effectiveness of DDP,the VE-DDP-Pro can significantly enhance treatment efficacy and prolong median survival of mice with metastatic ovarian cancer.We believe our self-assembled nanoparticles integrating the anti-EDV and anti-VM capacity provide a new preclinical sight to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutics for the treatment malignant metastasis tumor.Jiamao Luo Xinxian Zhong Yingming Peng Chenyuan Hao Xiaomei Liang Yulu Yang Xiubo Shi Xuncai Chen Xiao Yi iaoxuan Li Jianhua Wu Jinheng Li Qian Xiao Chentian Wu b Ruojing Lu b Yao Pan Xuejiao Wang Jun-Bing Fan Yifeng Wang Ying Wang 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,7:1

12Aryl hydrocarbon receptor activation drives polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cell response and efficiently attenuates experimental Sjögren’s syndrome显示文摘Myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)comprise heterogeneous myeloid cell populations with immunosuppressive capacity that contribute to immune regulation and tolerance induction.We previously reported impaired MDSC function in patients with primary Sjögren’s syndrome(pSS)and mice with experimental SS(ESS).However,the molecular mechanisms underlying MDSC dysfunction remain largely unclear.In this study,we first found that aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)was highly expressed by human and murine polymorphonuclear MDSCs(PMN-MDSCs).Indole-3-propionic acid(IPA),a natural AhR ligand produced from dietary tryptophan,significantly promoted PMN-MDSC differentiation and suppressive function on CD4^(+)T cells.In contrast,feeding a tryptophan-free diet resulted in a decreased PMN-MDSC response,a phenotype that could be reversed by IPA supplementation.The functional importance of PMN-MDSCs was demonstrated in ESS mice by using a cell-depletion approach.Notably,AhR expression was reduced in PMN-MDSCs during ESS development,while AhR antagonism resulted in exacerbated ESS pathology and dysregulated T effector cells,which could be phenocopied by a tryptophan-free diet.Interferon regulatory factor 4(IRF4),a repressive transcription factor,was upregulated in PMN-MDSCs during ESS progression.Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis revealed that IRF4 could bind to the promoter region of AhR,while IRF4 deficiency markedly enhanced AhR-mediated PMN-MDSC responses.Furthermore,dietary supplementation with IPA markedly ameliorated salivary glandular pathology in ESS mice with restored MDSC immunosuppressive function.Together,our results identify a novel function of AhR in modulating the PMN-MDSC response and demonstrate the therapeutic potential of targeting AhR for the treatment of pSS.Yanxia Wei Na Peng Chong Deng Futao Zhao Jie Tian Yuan Tang Sulan Yu Yacun Chen Yu Xue Fan Xiao Yingbo Zhou Xiaomei Li Hejian Zou Ke Rui Xiang Lin Liwei Lu 2022Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,12:1

16Global Research Trends Related to CO_2 Emissions and Their Enlightenment to China显示文摘Given the growing awareness of the likely catastrophic impacts of climate change and close association of climate change with global emissions of greenhouse gases (of which carbon dioxide is more prominent) , considerable research efforts have been devoted to the analysis of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and its relationship to sustainable development. Now GHG reduction programs have been coming into effect in many developed countries that have more responsibility for historical CO2 emissions, and the studies have become mature. First, the GHG emissions accounting system is more all-inclusive and the methods are more rational with the effort of IPCC from 1995 and all other researchers related. Second, the responsibility allocation is more rational and fair. Along with the clarity of 'carbon transfer' and 'carbon leakage', the perspective and methodology for allocating regional CO2 emissions responsibility is turning from production base to consumption base. Third, the decomposition method has become more mature and more complex. For example, the decomposition formulas are including KAYA expression and input-output expression and the decomposition techniques are developed from index analysis to simple average divisia and then adaptive-weighting divisia. Fourth, projection models have become more integrated and long-term. The top-down model and bottom-up model are both inter-embedded and synergetic. 18Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector.Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements,such as its low-energy threshold,high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors,and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors.In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable,assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition,approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected.This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter,which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle.Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better,depending on the central value,and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of 19Transcriptome profile and its partly verification of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells exposed to Yuzhizi(Fructus Akebiae Quinatae) seed extract显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of Yuzhizi(Fructus Akebiae Quinatae) seed extract(FAQSE) on inhibiting the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells in vitro and to explore the anti-HCC action mechanism of FAQSE. METHODS: Human HCC Hep G2 and Huh7 cells were used to investigate the anti-HCC effect of FAQSE in vitro. 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT) method was used to measure cell viability. Affymetrix microarray was adopted to detect the expression of transcriptome. The differentially expressed genes(DEGs) of each cell line were identified. For coDEGs of both cell lines, the gene ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway were enriched using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery(DAVID), and the network analysis of protein-protein interaction(PPI) was mapped using the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/Proteins(STRING) and Cytoscape software. Some important genes in the PPI network of coDEGs were selected to verify by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, Western blot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: FAQSE decreased the viability of Hep G2 and Huh7 cells. There were 211 co-upregulated and 86 codownregualted genes in both cell lines after FAQSE treatment. The enriched GO terms of co-upregulated DEGs were primarily involved cell-cell adhesion, viral process, transcription initiation from RNA polymerase II promoter, positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter and actin cytoskeleton organization. The GO terms of co-downregulated DEGs were mainly enriched in the processes of SRP-dependent cotranslational protein targeting to membrane, viral transcription, nuclear-transcribed m RNA catabolic process, nonsense-mediated decay, translational initiation and r RNA processing. Main KEGG pathways of co-upregulated DEGs were endocytosis, glutathione metabolism, protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum, synaptic vesicle cycle and lysosome. The major KEGG pathways of co-downregulated DEGs were ribosome, biosynthesis of amino acids, arginine and proline metabolism, systemic lupus erythematosus and complement and coagulation cascades. The top 10 coDEGs with high hub nodes in STRING analysis were ribosomal protein S27a, transferrin, ribosomal protein S20, ribosomal protein L9, protein phosphatase 2 regulatory subunit B alpha, transthyretin, thioredoxin reductase 1, ribosomal protein L3, ribophorin I and ribosomal protein L24. Alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) was also co-downregulated and contained in the PPI network. The m RNA and protein expression of most verified genes was consistent with the results of co-DEGs analysis. And the AFP level was significantly reduced after FAQSE treatment. CONCLUSIONS: A series of genes and pathways of Hep G2 and Huh7 cells were changed after FAQSE treatment, which might be the targets of FAQSE against HCC and worthy of further study.
